As governments prepare for the Next Policy Framework (NPF), Alberta Pork is working to ensure producers’ priorities remain front and centre. Alberta Pork Executive Director Darcy Fitzgerald recently met with Alberta Minister of Agriculture and Irrigation Tara Sawyer and federal Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Heath MacDonald to discuss the issues that matter most to Alberta’s pork sector.
The discussions focused on strengthening Business Risk Management (BRM) programming, advancing African Swine Fever (ASF) preparedness and recovery planning, and establishing funding opportunities that support primary production and on-farm improvements.
The strategic priorities established through the NPF will shape future funding for BRM programming and provincially administered programs such as the Sustainable Canadian Agricultural Partnership (SCAP).
As producers continue to navigate an increasingly challenging geopolitical and economic environment, Alberta Pork is advocating for an NPF that is responsive to industry needs. This will help producers build resilient, competitive operations while supporting long-term food security and economic growth across Alberta. •
