SIP Welcomes New Team Member

Swine Innovation Porc (SIP) is pleased to announce the appointment of Ravneet Kaur as Manager of Research Development, effective July 2, 2024.
As Manager of Research Development, Ravneet will serve as a key liaison between SIP and the Canadian pork research community. She will provide focused support for ongoing research initiatives, such as the Swine Cluster, and will foster new collaborative research with SIP’s partners across industry, academia, and government.
Prior to joining SIP, Ravneet served as Sask Pork’s Producer Services Manager, where she managed the provincial implementation of Canadian Pork Council programs. Her work experience has involved close collaboration with pork producers, addressing agricultural regulatory issues, and advancing swine research.
Ravneet is a foreign-trained veterinarian with a Master’s degree in Animal Behaviour and Welfare from the University of Saskatchewan. Her extensive background in swine health, research, and industry engagement provides her with experience that is closely aligned with pork sector and producer research priorities.

Mario Bulacso, a dedicated livestock driver with HyLife, has achieved an exceptional milestone by winning two prestigious awards: the 2024 MTA-Volvo Trucks Canada Manitoba Driver of the Year Award and the Manitoba Trucking Association (MTA) Inland Industry Excellence Award.
These awards recognize professional truck drivers who have demonstrated exceptional performance, commitment to the industry, safety, and community service. This double recognition underscores Mario’s unwavering dedication to his profession, animal welfare, and safety standards.
With more than 18 years of experience in the Hog Industry, Mario has fostered a tight-knit community on the road, offering guidance, support, and camaraderie. For the past two years, he has also served as a HyLife Driver Representative, a role he proudly embraces.
Mario’s passion for driving radiates through his work ethic. HyLife leadership applauds these accomplishments. •

Groundbreaking Ceremony Marks Start of Joint Venture Nucleus Farm in China

On June 30, a well-organized groundbreaking ceremony marked the start of a nucleus farm near Wuwei in China’s Gansu province. This project is a joint venture between Topigs Norsvin and Muyuan Foods and demonstrates their shared commitment to excellence and progress in pork production in China.
The new high-health nucleus farm will have a capacity of 1200 sows and will house both maternal and terminal sire lines. It will form the foundation of a breeding infrastructure that will provide high-quality genetics for Muyuan as well as other producers in China.
This groundbreaking ceremony marks the beginning of a deep collaboration between Muyuan and Topigs Norsvin and marks a joint step forward in the field of modern agriculture. Both partners strengthen each other. Topigs Norsvin is a leading and innovative pig breeding company committed to providing high-quality genetics to customers through innovative breeding technology and research. Muyuan Foods is the largest pig farming company in the world. It has earned high recognition and trust in the industry due to its rich experience and excellent market performance. •
