U.S. Hosted a ASF Event
Manitoba Pork attended an African Swine Fever Tabletop Exercise recently in Wisconsin, hosted by Johnsonville Foods and the U.S. National Pork Board. The goal of the event was to help develop a response for U.S. packers in case ASF comes to North America.
An interactive display with strategically placed farm premises facilitated discussion and brainstorming for various disease response scenarios. The exercise was a valuable lesson on U.S. hog sector emergency plans, as well as an opportunity to build Manitoba Pork’s network for future collaboration on foreign animal diseases. •

John Patience Featured:
Mastering the Message the Producer Needs
Kudos to Dr. John Patience for the recent feature article on him, his background and many accomplishments appearing in the National Hog Farmer. Although now based in Iowa, many of us fondly remember John from his time at the Prairie Swine Centre.
Thought the first sentence summed up him and his character, the respect he has in the industry from collogues, students and producers.
“Early in his career, John Patience learned that understanding what producers want and need to hear is more important than telling them what you know.” • NHF Kevin Schulz
