Good day, as I am penning this note, it is a beautiful typical fall day, starting at +4 going up to +20. Great fall harvest weather, you can see, smell and taste combine dust in the air.
Included in this edition is coverage on the latest (fluid) tariffs, a profile on team work, celebrating the latest investments into the hog sector, continuing to watch COOL, a unique story on a protest pig, connecting direct with consumers and so so much more.
Fall also means the return to many opportunities to connect with others in the hog sector to listen, learn, engage, have conversations and compare how things are going on other farms.
It starts with Red Deer Swine Technology Workshop, October 7th in Red Deer – another solid one day agenda will share some great up to date latest information for barn workers.
Then its off to Lethbridge for Alberta Livestock Expo, the expanded sold out floor plan will welcome over 115 various exhibitors. Wednesday October 14 and Thursday October 15.
Followed then by h@ms fall meetings taking place October 20 in Swift Current, October 27 in Strathmore and October 29 in Oakville.
Then it is the annual Saskatchewan Pork Symposium, November 3-4, with another great line-up of speakers and sessions.
Capping off with Manitoba Pork meetings November 10 in Niverville and November 12 in Portage La Prairie.
Concluding with Alberta Pork AGM  November 19 in Calgary. Wrapping up with Prairie Livestock Expo December 16 in Winnipeg. Check Pork Chops for exact locations, time and registration details.
Looking ahead to the December/January edition I will print 1000+ extra copies of that edition. A few hundred will come with me to PLE in Winnipeg and 800 for every attendee bag at Banff Pork Seminar. It’s a great opportunity to reach beyond the regular producers and industry peeps on our mailing list. Banff Pork Seminar registration is now open for the 2027 conference.
For those that plan ahead the release dates are on page 47 for 2027, which will be the 31st year for Prairie Hog Country. I am already excited to bring you another year of the latest hog news and information direct to producers and industry partners six times a year.
A question I have been asked quite a few times in the past year, what is my exit strategy. I have not really thought a lot about it, as I love what I do and who I do it for. I am incredibly blessed to work along side such a wonderful group of people.
With Thanksgiving only few weeks away, from when typing this, it reminds me how very much I, personally & professionally, have to be thankful for. As I often say we have roofs over our heads, food in our bellies, free to believe in what we want to, and surrounded by those we love and care about.
As always, I am only a phone call or email away. Prairie Hog Country, Box 5536, Leduc, Alberta T9E 2A1, 780.986.0962, fax 780.980.9640 or email: hogcountry@shaw.ca
Talk to you in December. •
