Many congratulations to Jack, Jake, Glen, and the helpers at Bluegrass Farming Hog Operation, repeat winners of Hypor’s Kenlis Cup! There were many excellent farms from across the Americas enrolled in Hypor’s annual sow productivity benchmark, so to come in at the top of this group (two years in a row!) is quite the accomplishment. Weaning an average of 35.43 quality pigs per sow over the course of a year doesn’t happen by accident, rather it’s the result of excellent management, well maintained facilities, and strong health, nutrition, and genetic programs. On the Hypor sow, Hog Operation Manager, Jack Wipf comments, “She makes our job easier with great mothering ability, breeding efficiency, and longevity. She produces large numbers of high-quality piglets but she is still very feed efficient – we appreciate that .” Keep up the outstanding work, Team Bluegrass!
Bluegrass Colony was established in Southern Alberta, Canada in 2002 and is home to 22 families. In addition to hogs, Bluegrass Farming Co. also runs a dairy enterprise and farms over 10,000 acres, mostly barley, wheat, canola, and pulses.
