Announces New Director of
Technical Services
TOPIGS Canada is pleased to announce the appointment of Mike Shaw to the role of Director of Technical Services. Mike will be responsible for the implementation of TOPIGS’ genetic program and technical support for TOPIGS customers in Canada and the United States.
Mike has broad experience in genetics, production and technical support having been with TOPIGS for 5 years as Operations Manager. Before joining TOPIGS, Mike was employed by Maple Leaf Foods where he held various positions with both GAP Genetics and Maple Leaf Agri-Farms overseeing their genetic programs and nucleus and multiplication structures.
Mike’s appointment by TOPIGS signals its continued commitment to client service
and dedication as an international leader in providing world class genetics and customer support to maximize results and returns. Mike will be the conduit between TOPIGS genetic development and technical support teams in Europe and the TOPIGS North American business, transferring knowledge and experience to the team and customers. •

Another Successful
Purebred Genesus Shipment
Recently a China Cargo 747 took a shipment of registered purebred Yorkshire, Landrance and Duroc pigs from Genesus and delivered then to Tianjin, China. All breeding stock were then transported to the quarantine barn about 50 km from Tianjin. Once quarantine is complete, these animals will travel to Best Genetics, Chifeng, Inner Mongolia to join other Genesus registered purebred breeding stock, already in full production. Their new home is a very modern, North American style barn which along with the Genesus stock, will all Best Genetics to produce top quality, high health status genetics for the Chinese Market. •

CPC Expands Western Team
Canadian Pork Council is expanding their western team by adding Audrey Cameron to the staff. Audrey will remain in Alberta in fact still in the Alberta Pork office in Edmonton, but will be working direct for CPC.
Her new title is Quality Assurance Program Coordinator for the Canadian Pork Council.
The duties are to maintain and enhance the CQA program to ensure that production practices on-farm promote both excellent animal care and food safety.
Audrey will be starting part time (3 days a week) in early April for CPC to allow a smooth transition with Alberta Pork new CQA coordinator and full time on May 1st. •
